Motown Memories Rise and Shine fundraiser – Here we go again!

April 25, 2020 Motown Memories Rise and Shine fundraiser Zero-waste dinner Here we go again – volunteers needed. We have been asked again to help with Motown Memories fundraiser to become a zero-waste event. If you were a part of the team last year, we would love to get together and brainstorm ways to improve on last year’s operations. It was our first time moving an event of this size to zero-waste and I personally learned a lot as I am sure many who were a part of the team did as well. Please let me know if you are interested in being a part of the team this year and/or if you are willing to get together and brainstorm ways to improve our work. Thanks so much!

The Power of One Person.

I hear it all the time, “I want to do something to make change, but I don’t know what to do.” I also have heard many times, “I am just one person, how could I really make change?” Many years ago I experienced something that changed my entire outlook on those thoughts and questions. I look around and saw a small child waiting at the cross walk with a parka on. It was so big, the child’s head was buried so deep in the hood, I could barely see his face. It was early and I knew the crossing guard would not be on duty for at [...]

Gift of Time Pop-up Potluck was a loving, wonderful gathering

December 14th we, in partnership with Project Empathy, hosted the 3rd Gift of Time Pop-up potluck in downtown Brevard. Thanks to the kindness of Courtney Mason, we were given amazing space to host the event. She originally made the plaza across from Rocky’s available but as weather forecasts became daunting, she called and asked if we would prefer using the lobby of the Aethelwold, a few doors down from the plaza. Wow and yes please! It was perfect space and it was full of people, amazing food, new friendships and lots and lots of smiles and laughs. Several folks shared heartwarming stories about their experience during the event. Kathy, who sat outside and invited folks to join us and enjoy a meal or snack, said one couple she had encouraged told her the event made their day! I thought I was going to cry when I heard that. One young couple who was visiting saw our sign on the street for a free potluck and decided to [...]

Announcing our new educational series – the first Thursday of the month

We are excited to announce our new educational series.  On the first Thursday of the month, we will be meeting at WolfBrew Bottle Shop for a zero-waste potluck and class on ways to move to zero-waste.  Our first class will be an introduction to Transylvania Shares, the new lending library in our community.  Meet the board members and learn about this exciting new community resource.
