December 14th we, in partnership with Project Empathy, hosted the 3rd Gift of Time Pop-up potluck in downtown Brevard. Thanks to the kindness of Courtney Mason, we were given amazing space to host the event. She originally made the plaza across from Rocky’s available but as weather forecasts became daunting, she called and asked if we would prefer using the lobby of the Aethelwold, a few doors down from the plaza. Wow and yes please! It was perfect space and it was full of people, amazing food, new friendships and lots and lots of smiles and laughs.
Several folks shared heartwarming stories about their experience during the event. Kathy, who sat outside and invited folks to join us and enjoy a meal or snack, said one couple she had encouraged told her the event made their day! I thought I was going to cry when I heard that.
One young couple who was visiting saw our sign on the street for a free potluck and decided to join us. They spent quite a bit of time with us and I was touched when the woman told me they had prayed for serendipity this morning and here it was!
The Gift of Time is about taking time out of a busy time of year to slow down and share our time and kindness with the community. It can be a very difficult time of year for people, especially folks who are lonely and have no one to celebrate with. Our community came together with love and kindness and created lots of special moments. I know I met some wonderful folks I look forward to spending more time with and am deeply touched by their generosity in sharing the gift of their time.
Many thanks to everyone who made it possible and for Project Empathy for partnering with us. Do you know of other groups who would like to join us for next year’s event? Let us know!
