Did you know our members report they have reduced the volume of their trash by 30% to 60% by diverting their food scraps? Moving to Conservers and the Transylvania County Solid Waste Authority partnered together and held an essay contest asking folks for suggestions on keeping food out of our landfill. Althea Dunn made this wonderful poster of the suggestions.
Composting is a great way to divert your scraps!
Do you want to compost? We can help. We have built facilities at several locations in our community and are happy to build more. We can also help with technical guidance if needed on managing a compost bin.
Not interested in a facility of your own? We have a small directory of places you can take your scraps. You can find it here.
You can also find places to share your scraps using the App ShareWaste.

Do you have compost/garden soil you don’t need?
We work with the Hunger Coalition to provide plants for those interested in growing their own food. It is an awesome program! We are always in need of soil when we pot the plants for distribution. If you have some you would like to share, let us know! It can help those in need of food grow some of their own. Email us at [email protected] if you have questions or compost to share!
